GLASTONBURY ADULT ED
Welcome to the Fall, 2018 course! I hope you find it productive and FUN! Here are songs that we played in the first class. Enjoy playing along with them. Click on the word "slow" if you

Week 3: We reviewed songs in the keys of C, F, and G, then I introduced the key of D, which includes the chords D, G, and A7. Start out with the 2 chord songs "The Eensy Weensy Spider" and "The Hokey Pokey." Pay particular attention to the fingering of the D chord. THERE IS NO INDEX FINGER IN THE D CHORD! That is one of the most important statements of the course! Go on to play "Save the Last Dance For Me," which begins in the key of C, and then modulates (changes key) to the key of D. They're all in the original handout.
The Eensy Weensy Spider * s (slow)    BAR-2 chord, key of D (note the fingering of D chord-very important!!!)

We Wish You a Merry Christmas s BAR
Silent Night with fancy ending-pay particular attention to the fingering of the F#diminished chord (remember "G on other strings")
Week 5: I introduced songs with the common "1 6 2 5" chord pattern. This simply means that the chords used are chords made, starting on the 1st, 6th, 2nd, and 5th notes of the scale. That's not important to understand!
For November 28th (we don't meet on the 21st, the day before Thanksgiving), from the original booklet, practice "Blue Moon" in C, and "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" in F.
I handed out the "Armed Services Medley", which will give you practice with the key of A. I also handed out "Crocodile Rock" in the key of Eb, to introduce you to transposing, using the "Transposing Table" in your booklet.

JOKE OF THE WEEK:
Q: Why do so many people take an instant dislike to the ukulele?
Ans: It saves time!
POINTS TO REMEMBER!
- Keep your left thumb low in back of the neck.
- Strum over the fingerboard, not over the sound hole.
- Cut fingernails of the left hand short.
- Hold the ukulele so that the end hits your right inner biceps muscle and your forearm crosses the uke's lower right.
- Practice your strumming away from the ukulele, for example, in the car, on your seat belt.
- Practice chord changes when you can, for example, during a television program, or at least during the commercials.
- Smile!
